Tragedy struck the Durg district of Chhattisgarh as a private firm's bus overturned and plunged into a ditch in the Kumhari area, claiming the lives of at least twelve workers while leaving 14 others injured. Durg collector Richa Prakash Choudhary reported that the bus, packed with laborers, met with the accident around 8.30 pm on Tuesday.
According to Choudhary, twelve of the injured were transferred to AIIMS (Raipur) for further medical attention, while the remaining two are being treated at a private hospital. The condition of all the injured individuals is currently stable, with authorities ensuring they receive the best possible care. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, with the local administration launching a probe into the matter.
Expressing his condolences, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai took to social media to mourn the loss of lives. "I was saddened to hear about the bus accident involving employees of a private firm near Kumhari in Durg," he stated, adding his prayers for peace for the departed souls and strength for their grieving families. He also assured that necessary arrangements had been made for the treatment of the injured workers, wishing them a speedy recovery.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his condolences, terming the accident in Durg as "extremely sad." He extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured. Modi highlighted the coordinated efforts of the state government and local administration in aiding the victims.
